Artist Statement
With Rewind, I’ve taken a personal journey deep into my own childhood memories—some joyful, others more complex—to offer a tribute to the decade that shaped me: the 1980s.
The colors in this series are deliberately more vivid, more pop, more flamboyant—echoing the exuberance and boldness of that era. My character, the Human of Glass, moves through this vibrant mental landscape, interacting with elements that left a lasting mark on me: iconic films, video games, music, and moments from everyday life. These works are filled with symbols, but also with emotion. They reflect my story—yet they speak to a collective one.
Rewind is not just about nostalgia. It’s also about the fragile nature of memory itself. Over time, memories shift, blur, degrade. Like an old VHS tape played too many times, they begin to glitch, to flicker, to fade. In each painting, I’ve integrated these visual distortions—subtle disruptions that mirror the imperfect, emotional, and sometimes dreamlike quality of remembrance.
While this exhibition is deeply personal, it’s not meant to be just mine. It’s for everyone who grew up in that colorful, chaotic, imaginative time. Rewind is a chance to hit play again—to reconnect with the moments that shaped us, even if only through the static of memory.
